“Before working with acting coach Lisbeth Bartlett, I preferred singing over acting. I felt insecure about taking risks and was afraid of the vulnerability one needs to truly act. I worked constantly, even in some long run professional productions but I relied on my singing abilities to get by.
Session after session, Lisbeth helped me tear down mental walls and broke me out of my shell. She created a safe space; I never felt scared to try something new or bold with my acting choices. Even though it felt uncomfortable at times, Lisbeth never judged me. Not once. Along with that, there was never a lack of material. With her enormous knowledge of theatre and her impressive collection of plays, Lisbeth always had a plethora of plays, monologues and scenes to work with that were right for me.
Lisbeth’s knowledge of the college process was incredibly helpful too. While my college counselor at school knew a thing or two about applying for theatre, Lisbeth knew basically everything. She helped me create a list of BFA conservatory programs, pick out monologue material, film prescreens, write supplements and more. At times, applying to all of these colleges got incredibly stressful. Lisbeth was always there to help me.
With all that being said, there is one more thing that makes Lisbeth an incredible acting coach. Her passion and love for her students. She truly wanted me to become a stronger actor. This was the thing that divided her from all of the other coaches and mentors I’d worked with before.
I can honestly say that Lisbeth changed my life. After getting into my dream college Early Decision last December– NYU Tisch School of the Arts Musical Theater BFA program– I thought our work together was done. Then, this spring, I got an audition for the leading role of Damian in a national tour of the hit Broadway musical, Mean Girls written by Tina Fey. I knew I needed to coach with Lisbeth a few more times to prepare. With her help, I auditioned for Broadway director Casey Nicholaw, was called back the same day, and learned the next morning that I got the part. It was an absolute dream come true. And Lisbeth talked me through the whole audition process. With Lisbeth’s guidance and support throughout my acting journey, I will be starting rehearsals in New York next week and going on tour for a year to cities all over the USA. After the tour is over, I will be going to my dream college NYU Tisch. I truly owe all of this, and ALL of my future success, to Lisbeth Bartlett.
