Solo Performer / Writer
I have performed solo plays and full-length monologues for several years, both scripts. I’ve written for myself and scripts by other playwrights. Recently,
I’ve decided to concentrate on bringing my solo performance work into a larger number of professional theaters. I first studied Solo Performance Composition in graduate school at NYU Tisch School of the Arts under the tutelage of my beloved friend and colleague, the legendary Deb Margolin. I took the performance writing I began under Deb at NYU and used it to gain acceptance to the MFA Creative Writing Graduate Program at Sarah Lawrence College, where I completed the Fiction and Creative Nonfiction programs. I am a published author now.
At Sarah Lawrence, I worked with brilliant writer-teachers Lawrence Weschler; Mary LaChapelle; Joan Silber; Mary Morris; Vijay Seshadri; Vivian Gornick; Hilton Als; Dave Eggers; and Jane Kramer, among others.
While completing my graduate work at Sarah Lawrence, I created and led a WRITERS READING CIRCLE to coach fellow creative writing students to successfully read their own material in public readings; this has led to a new and exciting development in my coaching studio; I now coach writers as well as actors for public performance.
As a writer, I work across several disciplines; currently, I am creating a series of solo plays/monologues; a full-length play; full length memoir; and a novel. I have recently studied Storytelling with the inimitably great Mike Daisy and am a member of a fantastic WRITE LAB created by award-winning memoirist and poet, Alice Anderson. I have performed my original solo work in various venues, including the New York and Philadelphia Fringe Festivals.
I also coach performers in creating their own solo plays.
