- Do write personal hand written thank you letters on to each program you have applied for that you would consider attending. Emails are also acceptable. Writing the individual faculty members who auditioned you is a great idea. Be specific about what made your audition experience memorable and positive. Also be specific as to why the school felt like a great fit for you and why you think you are a great fit for that program. All these notes will be added to your admissions file.
- Do not, however, pester program adjudicators or admissions personnel. Ask me if you want me to advocate for you concerning a particular program you really want to be accepted to. I am happy to do this!
- Do keep schools apprised of any news you might have to share with them about revised grade point averages, new test scores, new academic or artistic awards, performances, reviews, and such. Again, do not pester admissions officials or program heads as this could negatively affect your admissions decision.
- If a program has put you on a wait list or deferral list it is very important that you do contact them to let them know you are still interested in attending the program. But again, do not pester admissions officials about deferrals or wait lists; that can have a negative affect on your chances.
- Do contact current students or graduates of the programs you are most interested in and ask them questions. I can provide you with student, faculty and parent contacts for many of the programs you have auditioned for and you can also check program websites and Facebook pages.
- Stay off College Confidential and other online college audition sites. These are not helpful to students and parents waiting for admissions results. They just make it more stressful.
- Use this time to visit campuses you are interested in. If you are accepted to a particular school, use this time to visit the college again to take tours and watch classes.
- When all your results are in, the next step is to tackle financial aid. That will be in my next blog. In the meantime, I am always here to talk to, answer questions and give advice. So call!
- Do keep up your acting chops. I am planning to start a group acting class in the near future. Depending on numbers, it will either take place in my studio or in a rehearsal studio nearby. Please let me know if you are interested.
