Lisbeth Bartlett was the first acting teacher to really open me up to the idea that being myself was enough. Young actors many times get wrapped up in trying to become something else but Lisbeth taught me the essential part of acting is bringing YOUR OWN heart to the character. I worked with Lisbeth for summer program auditions for both the University of Michigan and Northwestern University to which I was accepted and attended, as well as for my grueling college musical theater auditions. Lisbeth helped me pick unique plays and characters that would best show my heart and soul as an actor. With Lisbeth’s help and encouragement, I got accepted into the top conservatory in the nation for Musical theater—CCM. In fact, I now realize Lisbeth sensed things about me as an actor that I didn’t even know. Years later I have now had moments while in auditions or rehearsals and I think, “Oh that’s what Lisbeth meant!” Lisbeth works in a wacky, loving, and intelligent way. Since training with her I have had the privilege of performing with and being directed by Tony Award winning performers and creators, and I can assure you VERY FEW professionals are as nurturing as the lovely Lisbeth.
