MFA EAST15 UK Acting; Wellesley BA

Biography

Testimonial

Lisbeth Bartlett is a DREAM to work with! I started coaching with Lisbeth after I graduated from college and moved to NYC to pursue an acting career because I felt like I needed more training. Though I had performance experience, my college degree from Wellesley was not a conservatory BFA. I had a wide range of classical monologues in my audition repertoire, but struggled to find contemporary monologues I connected with. From the first call/email, I knew Lisbeth was the perfect teacher for me. I sent her a list of my favorite plays and she sent me back stellar recommendations right off the bat. Even though I lived in NYC, I made the commitment to travel to Philadelphia for our lessons and I would do it all over again. It is one of the greatest decisions I have ever made. I will be starting this fall at EAST15 MFA Program in London, UK.

Lisbeth, who is a dedicated, compassionate, talented, and masterful teacher and professional actor, has cultivated a safe and welcoming place in her private studio in Philadelphia where artists feel free to explore, create, and grow. She knows when to challenge you and when to hold back and let you discover the next step. She helps you hone in on your natural gifts and be confident enough to show your most authentic self in your work. She has deep knowledge of classical and contemporary acting methods, plays, playwrights, artists, and the evolving real world professional theater industry. She weaves these into her coaching lessons. Lisbeth takes your own personal story, personality, likes and dislikes into account when recommending plays and monologues, but at the same time she expands your knowledge by throwing in new plays and characters that you might not consider on your own. She is extremely generous with her time and resources—scheduling last minute lessons so I could work on an audition or callback, record self-tape auditions and the like. I always left her studio with a bag full of plays. Not only did Lisbeth’s teaching style inspire me to look at every piece/performance as a constant discovery, but she also inspired me to embrace all the instinctual possibilities in each moment of each monologue instead of striving for a ‘perfected’ version of an audition piece.

After working with Lisbeth for a year, I decided to prepare for MA MFA conservatory auditions. Under her guidance, I went into every MFA grad school audition with material I loved performing, feeling confident and trusting myself. Lisbeth was ready to answer every text and call, before/during/after every single one of my auditions, excited to revel in my experiences and growth, but also giving constructive comments and helping me to tweak my pieces for the next audition. I am thrilled to be able to say that Lisbeth Bartlett is not only a wonderful teacher and mentor, but also a dear friend. I highly recommend Lisbeth if you want to train to be a better actor and/or need to prepare for challenging BFA, MFA or professional auditions! So excited to start my work at EAST15!
